Admission & Discharge

Admission & Discharge

Knowing more about Spectrum Health's admission and discharge procedures will help make your hospital stay more comfortable.

Getting Admitted

Call us at (616) 391-1720 for a preadmission form. Preregistering will shorten your registration time, and provide necessary information to your caregivers and insurance company. After we receive your form, our nursing staff will contact you to get your health information and provide instructions.

Your doctor can schedule preadmission testing such as lab tests or X-rays. If this isn't done before you arrive, tests can be conducted before your procedure.

Patients who are 17 years old or younger and are not married must be accompanied during admission by a parent or legal guardian to consent to treatment.

Maternity Preadmission

If you're delivering your baby at Spectrum Health, you'll need to complete a preadmission form 60 days before your due date. You can call our office at (616) 391-1720 to update your information if it changes.

Go directly to the Butterworth Hospital Emergency Department when you're ready or instructed to come to the hospital. From there, you'll be taken to the obstetrical area.

Getting Discharged

Before you leave the hospital, a nurse will review at-home care instructions with you. Normally, we discharge patients around 11 a.m., but your doctor can agree to discharge you anytime it's medically appropriate. We'll give you information about your discharge location and where to park once you're at the hospital.
